Two AK-47 rifles seized during Bunkprugu clashes

The police have retrieved two Automatic Kalashnikov rifle (AK-47) in Bunkprugu as two clans renew clashes that dragged from Wednesday to Thursday.

There is an uneasy calm in the Northern regional township following fresh riot between the Jamong and Jafog (two Konkomba) clans of Kpentogu and Bamungu areas.

The police have confirmed the death of three people while 35 houses have been set ablaze, rendering several people homeless.

The Northern regional Police PRO ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has assured Starrfmonline.com the law enforcement agents are “in control of the situation.”

It is, however, unclear what sparked the clashes.

The locals who are living in a state of trepidation have fled the town to neighbouring Togo for safety.

In April 12, 2015, two persons died while 24 houses were set ablaze during similar clashes.

The town has been placed on curfew between 8pm and 6am.
