Twifo Praso gets eight area councils

Twifo Agona (C/R), Sept. 26, GNA- The Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira District Assembly is to construct permanent offices for eight Area Councils in the area.

The beneficiary area councils are Jukwa, Praso, Wamaso, Mampong, Nyinase, Wawase, Hemang and Agona.

Mr Joseph Foster Andoh, District Chief Executive, who announced this at the inauguration of Twifo Agona Area Council said GIZ (German Development Co-operation), has pledged to support the councils in diverse ways.

Mr Andoh said under the decentralisation process, the councils would have the power and authority to among other things facilitate the growth and development of their communities.

He congratulated the members of the councils and advised them to live up to expectation since much would be expected from them.

Mr Thomas Dolla-Friodrich, Representative of GIZ attached to the Assembly also congratulated the members of the Councils and promised to assist them to be proactive.

He advised the councillors to draw up action plans and strive to achieve them.

Mr Dolla- Friodrich said the area councils should work hard to generate funds to develop their communities.

Later, a workshop on decentralisation and Local Government System was organised for 80 members of the councils.

The workshop, sponsored by GIZ took the participants through topics such as social resource mobilisation skills, leadership and its importance as well as the rationale behind the Local Government System.
