Twifo-Eduabeng (C/R), May 8, GNA- Dr Paa Kwasi Nduom, Minister of Energy on Friday said the government would connect 1,069 communities in the country to the national electricity grid by the end of the year. He said this at Twifo-Eduabeng when he commissioned the electricity project for both Twifo-Eduabeng and Twifo-Kwanyaako communities in the Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira district.
The project estimated at 930 million cedis was financed by the government, Twifo Oil Palm Plantations (TOPP) and the District Assembly. The Ministry of Energy provided 760 million cedis, TOPP, 150 million cedis while the district assembly provided 20 million cedis.
Dr Nduom said the provision of the electricity to the people indicated the government’s commitment to the provision of infrastructure like roads and water to improve the lot of the people.
On the December general elections, Dr Nduom appealed to the people who have registered to have their photo identity cards to enable them to exercise their franchise.
He appealed to the people to vote for people with sterling qualities who could deliver.
Mr Abraham Odoom, the District Chief Executive, expressed gratitude to the government and management of TOPP for providing funds for the project.
He said out of 1,000 communities in the district only 18 have been connected to the national grid, and appealed to the Minister to ensure that the rest were catered for.
Mr Odoom thanked “Kwanash Electrical Enterprise,” for executing the project on schedule and urged the company to keep it up.
Mr Stephen Larbi, factory manager of TOPP who presided over the function hoped school children would make good use of the facility to study hard.
Nana Kobena Kwaa 11 chief of Eduabeng on behalf of his people thanked the government for providing the light and pledged his people’s support to the government.
