Twifo assembly earmarks 6.1 billion cedis for more projects

Twifo Praso (C/R), July 14, GNA – The Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District Assembly is to spend 6.1 billion cedis on more projects and programmes in the district to enhance the socio-economic lives of the people.

Among the projects are the establishment of a soap factory, improvement of education infrastructure, and extension of electricity to more communities and the construction of drains. The assembly approved the amount at the end of its three-day sitting at Twifo-Praso on Wednesday.

Presenting the budget Mr Yaw Agyeibi Kessie, District Chief Executive, said his administration would “subject itself to an annual budget review”, in order to ensure strict financial administration. On local revenue mobilization, he said although the assembly raised 1.2 billion cedis last year from 244.1 million cedis in 2001, there “was still room for improvement”.

Mr Agyebie-Kessie said the assembly would put up permanent offices for the area councils and employ a staff for each office. He said there were plans under the Community Based Rural Development Programme to provide more support for the councils and that the councils at Wamaso, Wawase and Nyinase have been selected to benefit.

Officials of the area councils will be trained in project identification and be given 150 million cedis to implement their projects.
