Twenty adult illiterates trained to read and write Dangbe

Nuaso (E/R), Feb. 24, GNA – Twenty adult illiterates had been trained to read and write the Dagme Language by the Dagme Literacy class of the Bible Society of Ghana at Manyakpowunor in the Lower Manya Krobo District. This was disclosed by Reverend Samuel Boinor Laweteh, Manyakpowunor District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, at a thanksgiving service organized jointly by the Nuaso and Manyakpowunor Local Council of Churches to climax the celebration of the Bible Week Celebration in the are= a at Nuaso on Wednesday.

He called on other illiterate Christians in the community to join the literacy class so that they could learn to read and write and be able to read the bible. Rev. Laweteh, who is also the Dangbe Literacy Co-ordinator of the Bibl= e Society of Ghana, said this year, the 20 adults who were trained to read an= d write Dagme would be taught to read and write English Language also. He said the Bible Society of Ghana was expecting some members of the Literacy and Evangelism International Society from the United States of America to organize training of trainers programme to train adult illiterates to read and write the English Language. Rev. Fr. Samuel Paddy of the Nuaso Anglican Church, also a Special Adviser to the Local Council of Churches, noted that the celebration of the Bible Week brought all the Christian churches in the area together to worship and pray for God’s guidance.

He said such programmes demonstrated the beauty and strength of the Christian faith and helped in winning people into Christianity. Earlier in a sermon, Rev. David Nii Badu Botwe, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, said God gave man dominion over everything in the worl= d but because of disobedience, mankind had lost that authority. He called on Christians to work hard and overcome the evil in them so that they would lead lives that could inspire others to lead Godly lives.
