Twelve people die in multiple accidents

Kumasi, Feb. 14, GNA – Twelve people died, 10 of them on the spot and two later at the hospital in a multiple crash of vehicles at Akomadan in the Offinso district of Ashanti last Saturday.

Eighteen others who received serious injuries were rushed to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital where they are on admission.

The 10 who were all Muslims have since been buried while the two who died at the hospital have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue. Briefing the press on the accident in Kumasi on Tuesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Frank Adu-Poku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said a Burkina Faso articulated vehicle parked by the roadside at Akomadan at about 8 pm (2000 hours) on Saturday.

He said a Benz bus which was travelling towards Kumasi from Tamale and driving at top speed crashed into the articulator, followed moments later by another crash into the first bus by another Benz bus, all said to belong to the same person, killing 10 people on the spot. ACP Adu-Poku said two others who received serious injuries were rushed to the Holy Family Hospital where they died later.
