Gomoa Ankamu (C/R), July 14, GNA- Mr Francis Kojo Arthur, a 54-year-old tutor of the Anglican Senior High School in Kumasi, was at the weekend elected the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Gomoa West at the constituency delegate’s congress at Gomoa Ankamu.

Mr Arthur, who holds Master’s Degree in Agriculture Science, beat his sole contestant, Mr Kow Anyanful, a former Gomoa District Chief Executive by 137 votes to 115 at the election which was supervised by Mr Stephen Bertino, District Electoral Officer. Mr Valis Akyianu, Regional Chairman of the party, asked party supporters and members to offer the candidate material and moral support to enable him win the Gomoa West seat.

Professor Samuel Quartey, NDC constituency chairman, commended the delegates for comporting themselves during the election and said they had proved that the NDC was not a violent party as perceived by its detractors.

Mr Anyanful appealed to his supporters to rally behind Mr Arthur and give him the needed support to enable him to reclaim the seat. Mr Anyanful assured the parliamentary candidate of his support to enable him to win the seat.

Miss Grace Okoe-Santana, the constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women’s Organiser, called for peaceful co-existence between supporters of the political parties in the area. She said “Politics is to enhance development but not for tearing the people apart”.
