Turkson to contest Agona West seat as independent

Agona Swedru (C/R), Dec 17, GNA- Mr Ishmael Kofi Turkson, Central Regional Chairman of the National Reform Party (NRP) is to contest Agona West Seat as Independent candidate in 2004 parliamentary election. He said ” his intention to go as an independent candidate was personal”.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview at Agona Swedru on Tuesday, Mr Turkson, who is also a Legal Practitioner in Agona Swedru noted that he will officially launch his campaign on January 8, 2004.

Mr Turkson stressed that his desire to contest seat was that chiefs and people especially the youth have encouraged him to do so. He stated that he would sacrifice his time, energy and resources to help the people if they give him their mandate to represent the constituency.

He declared that education standard in the district is not encouraging and it will be one of his priorities to address the issue. Mr Turkson admitted that the NPP is popular in the area but he would work hard to win the seat.
