The volume of trade between the Republic of Turkey and Ghana increased tremendously last year and crossed the one hundred million dollar threshold.
This was diclosed by the Honorary Consul of Turkey in Ghana, Lord Duodu-Kumi during the commissioning of the Galaxy International School in Accra.
The growth in trade between the two countries, he said, is indicative of the fact that the Republic of Turkey’s interest in Ghana is more than one of mere curiosity.
During the same period there was an increase in the number of tourists from Turkey to Ghana and businessmen who came to explore business opportunities here.
The Galaxy International School is one of the educational institutions being run by the Turkish educational corporation- Surat Educational Corporation Ltd. They have schools in many parts of the world like the US, Britain and many parts of Africa. The schools are science and mathematics oriented.
Earlier the Minister of Girl Child Education had visited Turkey to witness the operations of the corporation’s institutions in that country.
Her impressions were reflected in her speech at the function, during which she called on parents to take the education of their kids seriously.
Recalling her humble beginnings, she said it is education that has brought her where she is today.
Sheikh I.C. Quaye the Greater Accra Regional Minister who was the chairman of the function asked all Ghanaians to support the government in providing education for all.
He said the commitment of the current government to improve education in the country led it to call for a review of the inherited educational system.
He thanked the Turks for their decision to extend their quality educational institution to Ghana.
