Tunisia and Botswana remain without a win in the Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers after playing out a 2-2 draw in Rades on Monday.
The result leaves both sides on two points in Group H after two matches. Tunisia opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against co-hosts Uganda, while Botswana began with a 2-2 draw against Libya.
Botswana took the lead after 37 minutes when Thatayaone Kgamanyane scored. Tunisia responded before and after half-time, with Hazem Mastouri finding the net twice to put the hosts ahead and seemingly move them towards their first victory.
However, Botswana avoided defeat when Lebogang Ditsele equalised in the 60th minute, ensuring the points were shared.
The outcome leaves Group H closely contested, although Uganda’s status as one of the tournament’s co-hosts affects the qualification picture. Uganda, alongside Kenya and Tanzania, are already guaranteed places at the 2027 finals.
Only the highest-placed team other than Uganda will therefore qualify from Group H. With the section consisting of six matches, every point could prove crucial. Uganda are scheduled to play Libya on Tuesday.
DR Congo maintain perfect start
DR Congo strengthened their position at the top of Group E with a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in Harare.
They have won both of their opening matches and lead the group with six points. Yoane Wissa scored one goal and created another for Samuel Moutoussamy, while Zimbabwe reduced the deficit late on through Marshall Munetsi.
DR Congo held on to remain three points clear at the summit.
Equatorial Guinea secured their first win of the campaign by beating Sierra Leone 1-0 in Yaounde. Loren Zuniga struck inside the opening minute, and the early goal was enough to settle the match.
Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea have three points each after two rounds, while Sierra Leone have yet to register a point.
Burkina Faso edge Central African Republic
Burkina Faso claimed a narrow 1-0 win against the Central African Republic in Casablanca in Group F.
Aboubacar Camara scored the only goal in the 60th minute, producing the decisive moment in just his second senior international appearance. The victory took Burkina Faso to four points from their first two matches.
Mauritania have three points and Benin have one, but neither side has completed their Matchday 2 fixture. They are due to meet in Abidjan on Tuesday.
With more games still to be played, the early group standings are beginning to take shape. DR Congo are the only team among Monday’s featured winners and drawn sides to have won both matches.
Tunisia and Botswana, meanwhile, must turn their successive draws into victories if they are to finish above the other contenders in Group H and claim the section’s qualification place outside the hosts.
