Tullow Oil Ghana, on Wednesday donated quantities of assorted engineering books to the College of Engineering in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
The aim is to support the College to train quality petro-chemical and allied engineers to support the country’s emerging oil and gas industry.
Nana Appiah Kyei, Sub-Surface Engineering Manager of Tullow, speaking at the ceremony, said the Company was committed to sharing from the prosperity that flows from its operations in Ghana.
He said Ghana needs well educated geologists, geophysicists and other professionals to help work in the oil and gas sector, which is mined in deep sea; adding that local engineers are needed to work in the sector.
Nana Kyei pledged the continuous support of Tullow in training and equipping local talents to take active part in the oil and gas industry.
Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice Chancellor of the University, commended the collaborative initiative of Tullow in training and building the capacity of both students and faculty members of the University, to play active roles in the emerging oil industry.
He said, as a leading science and technology institution, it is important to stay in a close partnership with Tullow to train the needed manpower for the sector, and appealed for more assistance from the Company in that direction.
Professor Samuel Innocent Kofi Ampadu, Provost of College of Engineering, said the College is focused on national industrial development, aiming at becoming a centre of excellence in engineering education, especially in petrochemical in Africa.
He said the books have come to support the College to achieve its objectives and thanked Tullow oil for the gesture.**
