Truck runs over a three-year-old boy

Tragedy struck the Akyeremade suburb of Asante-Mampong on Friday morning when a KIA truck loaded with bags of sachet water ran over a three-year-old boy, killing him instantly.

Little Kwabena Afriyie was crossing the road unaccompanied when the accident happened.

Superintendent of Police Benjamin Kwadwo Gyasi, the Asante-Mampong Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the truck was heading towards Mampong from Medoma in the Kwabre-East District.

The driver, 29-year old Kofi Adu, is on police inquiry bail and assisting in investigations.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital for autopsy.

Supt. Gyasi appealed to drivers to be cautious, especially when driving through built-up areas.
