Truck ran over market women killing three

Nsawam, March 9, GNA – Three persons died on the spot while the fourth person died whilst on admission at the Nsawam Government Hospital when an Nkawkaw bound truck from Accra ran over them at Nsawam on Tuesday.

The dead were identified as Effo Kwashie, 50, driver of the truck, Joyce Adjei, 28, trader and her seven-year-old daughter, Addo Augustina, whilst Alhaji Zama Quaye, 80 died shortly on admission at the Hospital.

Aptsi Leo, 30, the driver’s mate, Opanin Kojo Asante, 73, owner of the truck, Master Kwao Solomon, a 16-year-old student of the St Martin’s Secondary School, Kofi Ahorsu, a two year-old boy and his grandmother, Madam Ahorsu Gorgenia, 49, trader are on admission.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency about the incident at Nsawam, on Wednesday, the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Asafo Agyei Nartey, said the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle from the Boateng Memorial Vocational School until he crashed into a kiosk near the railway crossing where market women were trading.

The police are still investigating the incident while the deceased have been deposited at the Hospital’s morgue for post mortem.
