A truck driver has assaulted Mr Ahmed Abdulai, the Assembly Member for the Kwesi Plange Electoral Area in the Tema Metropolis, when directing traffic at Tema Community One.
Mr Abdulai, narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency, said due to the rehabilitation of a stretch of the Tema Harbour Road, traffic builds up in the inner roads in the central business area, especially at Site 20.
According to him, to help the free flow of traffic and ease the effect of the diversion on residents and workers, every morning he directs traffic within the area.
He added that on Thursday, at between 15:00 and 16:00 hours, when he was returning from a radio programme at Obonu FM with a colleague assembly member, he noticed the traffic had built up around the Kwasia-Dwaaso area and therefore decided to alight and control the traffic.
The Kwesi Plange Assemblyman stated that he was directing the trucks to use the Maame Sekunde area, but while doing that, one truck driver approached and refused to heed his advice.
Mr Abdulai said: “He insisted on using the road, which I refused, so I hung onto his door, thinking he would slowdown so I can drop off, but he didn’t, but he rather sped off, and upon reaching the Wonder Wonder area, he picked up a big stone from there and hit my head with it.
“I didn’t even argue with him; he then unprovoked hit my head with a stone, which led to a cut and bleeding from my skull.”
According to him, there were two occupants in the truck, but the other person got down and escaped, leaving the driver, who apologised for his actions.
Mr Abdulai said they apprehended the driver and reported the incident to the Tema Community One Police, where he was given a medical form and went to the Tema General Hospital for treatment.
