“Tro-tro” Driver honoured for his commitment

Tema, April 25, GNA- Mr Kofi Abban, a “tro-tro” driver plying between Sackey, a community near Michel Camp, Accra was on Saturday honoured by three concerned residents of the community, for his commitment to duty. He was given a wall clock in appreciation of his hard work.

The three residents were, Nana Owusu Amofa, Mr Daniel Opare Darko and Mr Richard Obeng.

Presenting the gift, Nana Amofa said the road linking Sackey with the main Tema-Akosombo road is in a deplorable state and some drivers refused to ply it during the rainy season.

“The road is bad but Kofi Abban, the “Sackey Bird” flies over as if he is on a motorway, his politeness, punctuality, honesty and good relations merited the nickname “Sackey Bird” by the residents including children” Mr Amofa said.

He said when the drivers neglect the residents due to the deplorable condition of the road then we have no choice than to walk quite a distance to the main road before we get vehicle to Tema.

“But we breathed a sigh of relief when Mr Abban started plying the road because rainy season or no rainy season he would be there as early as 0500 hours from Tema Manhean where he lives to pick passengers to Tema” Mr Amofa said.

Mr Thomas Otu, Station Master of the GPRTU branch Number Two at Tema said members of the branch commend the three concerned citizens and said the gesture was the first of its kind at the station.

He however, said they were not surprised at the gesture because Mr Abban’s commitment to duty is on record at the station and urged him to continue with that spirit and appealed to other drivers to emulate him.
