Accra, Feb. 12, GNA – An Accra Regional Tribunal on Monday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of one Korbie, now at large, for his alleged involvement in a case in which he and two others are being held for causing unlawful damage to the property of the Baptist Church. When the matter came up for hearing at the tribunal on Monday, Amoako Danquah and Joseph Quaye, both drivers, pleaded not guilty to three counts of unlawful entry, threat of death and causing unlawful damage to 370 pieces of blocks belonging to the local branch of the Baptist Church at Adamrobe, near Oyibi.
They were admitted to bail in the sum of 100 million cedis each with a surety to be justified. They are to re-appear on February 22. The prosecution applied for a bench warrant for the arrest of Korbie, who the tribunal learnt, was at large.
The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecution are that in September last year members of the church went to work on a plot of land they had acquired for the construction of a church building. The prosecution said while there, Amoako and Quaye went and ordered members to stop work.
The prosecution said the two accused persons left the scene and later returned with Korbie and other unidentified persons wielding guns, cutlasses and sticks.
Upon threats by the angry men, the church members fled but before leaving the scene, the attackers, including the two accused persons, destroyed 370 blocks belonging to the church.
Members of the Church reported the matter to the Property Fraud Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
