Trial for Patrol Team Members

The office of the Attorney General has directed the Inspector General of Police to build a docket for the case involving the shooting of members of the Taifa Neigbhourhood Watch Committee on 13th June 2002 as a result of which 5 persons were killed and another 2 injured.

Following the shooting incident, involving a joint Police/Military patrol, a Committee of Enquiry was appointed by Dr. Addo-Kufuor, Minister for Defence and Acting Minister for Interior to investigate the circumstances that led to the deaths and injuries. The Chairman of the Committee was Prof. Addae-Mensah, Vice Chancellor University of Ghana.

Upon completion of its work, the Committee submitted its report to the Minister, who in turn forwarded it to the office of the Attorney General for its comments and advice.

The Attorney General’s office has since reviewed the report and has advised that the officers involved in the shooting incident must be prosecuted for their conduct which is considered unlawful.
