Trending GH: Ghanaians fire Opuni over GHC75000 salary

Many Ghanaians are fuming with anger on social media after an unverified list detailing the huge salaries of some public chief executive officers in the country went viral.

The New Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Hackman Owusu-Agyemang after his swearing in into office, revealed that the former CEO of the COCOBOD was earning GHC750000 as his monthly salary.

This amount, according to Mr. Owusu-Agyemang was outrageous and has called for a slash in salaries of COCOBOD’s management to ensure that the Board does not go beyond the state’s remuneration structure.

He stated, in spite of plan to slash salaries, some top managers of COCOBOD will still earn more than the president and other Article 71 office holders which are pegged around GHC22, 000.

After this revelations, the Cocobod Board Chairman has been criticized by some top politicians.

Some Ghanaians have also expressed their disappointment in the previous government for “wasting tax payers money” on individuals as monthly salary.

However, some are of the view that the former COCOBOD CEO, Dr. Opuni Frimpong deserved better salary and treatment and so the complains were unnecessary.
