Tree-planting would restore Ghana’s vegetation – Tenkorang

Akim Nkwantang(E/R), Dec. 02, GNA 96 Mr Emmanuel Tenkorang, Executive Director of Help Me Network, a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has advised individuals and groups to take interest in tree-planting to restore Ghana’s fast depleting vegetation. He said communities should not to take tree-planting as an exercise but nurture them to maturity.

Mr Tenkorang gave the advice when addressing a Muslim Community at Akim Nkwantang near Kade during a tree-planting exercise organised by the NGO at Akim Nkwantang Islamic Primary and Junior Secondary School (JSS) Schools.

It was part of activities to commemorate the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Ghana’s Independence.

He said the trees planted would beautify the environment and in addition serve as wind break to public and individual buildings. Mr Tenkorang said the organisation would undertake agro-forestry project by encouraging communities, especially the youth in tree-growing exercise to protect the environment.

He said land had been acquired at Akim Nkwantang to undertake the project to supply tree seedlings to interested communities and individuals for the exercise.

Mr Mohammed Taimiimu, Chairman of Islamic School Management Committee on behalf of the community commended the NGO for selecting the school for the exercise.

He said as a new school they needed trees to beautify the compound and serve as wind break.

Mr Taimiimu pledged to nurture the trees to maturity.
