Tree falls on a parked car at Legon Campus

A giant tree on Thursday afternoon fell on a parked vehicle on the University of Ghana campus in Accra.

No one was injured as there was nobody in the vehicle at the time. The incident happened at about 3:00pm in front of the Legon Hall, and eyewitnesses say it might have been caused by a burst pipe under the three.

The tree uprooted and landed the front section of the white Saturn Vue four-wheeled vehicle with registration number GE 3414-13. The entire front section to the bonnet area have been destroyed.

“Fortunately, there has been no casualty; there was nobody in the car or passing by at the time, Jerry Afolabi who witnessed the tree fall told 3News.

“There is this pipe under the tree which has been damaged. I’m told it had been reported to authorities at the hall but nothing has been done about it,” he added.

According to him, he was returning from the Balm Library and upon reaching the Post Office area, he saw the tree falling on the vehicle amidst shouts by people who were around.
“The tree had soaked a lot of water for months so it weakened roots” Mr Afolabi told 3News

Watch as some workers try to remove the tree from the road.
