Travellers stranded as river submerges bridge

Winneba, June 21, GNA – About 1,000 passengers and their vehicles are stranded at Gomoa Okyereko junction because the Ayensu River has submerged the bridge over it following a heavy downpour.

Some of the passengers told the GNA that their vehicles arrived there at about 0900 hours on Monday but found the bridge submerged. Most of the passengers from Cape Coast, Takoradi, Sekondi, Apam, Mankessim and other parts of the Western and Central regions are waiting for the floodwaters to subside for them to continue their journey. A spokesman for the Winneba branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union said vehicles had to pass through Nsuekyir before joining the main Accra road at Gomoa Ojobi to continue their journey. 21 June 10
