Traumatized persons urged to seek psychosocial counselling

Accra, Aug. 25, GNA – Reverend Veronica Noukpe, Chief Executive Officer of Effective Counselling Ministry International (ECoMI), has asked people with psychological and emotional problems to seek psychosocial counselling services.

ECoMI is a non-governmental organisation (NGO), established in 2009 to provide the appropriate counselling to abused, traumatized and offer help to the less privilege in the society.

“The full incorporation of ECoMI as a charitable organisation in 2009 cushioned it to promote psychosocial counselling services as the missing link in national development,” Rev Noukpe stated.

Addressing the press on the organization’s strategic plan for the 2010 to 2015 in Accra, Rev Noukpe said ECoMI was also established to address the numerous negative effects on the society due to social problems.

“ECoMI with its action plan would create the needed awareness on the use of psychosocial counselling services to address problems in the society,” she added.

Rev Noukpe cited the establishment of home for the disadvantaged children and the aged, the training of counsellors in schools and associations, the provision of assistance to HIV/AIDS positive persons as some of the projects earmarked for ECoMI’s 15 years strategic plan.

She said “We would also promote Voluntary Counselling and Treatment (VCT) for transmitted diseases such as HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis. Hepatitis and also establish a 24 hour hotline for ECoMI’s clientele”.

Rev Noukpe called on corporate organizations in the country to support the NGO financially to enable it work effectively.

Mr William Anderson, HIV positive client of ECoMI, entreated corporate organizations in the country to financially support ECoMI to also support the less privileged in the society.
