A refurbished Trauma Centre with equipment estimated at one million dollars provided by Israel, was handed over to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on Wednesday.
A team from Israel and their Ghanaian counterparts took less than two weeks to demolish, refurbish and install equipment at the Centre for thetreatment of accident and other trauma cases.
Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of KATH, said three Israeli professionals were also sent to the Hospital to train the personnel. He said the establishment of the Centre marked the beginning of relationship between Tel Aviv Hospital, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Hospital and KATH.
Dr Nsiah-Asare expressed appreciation to Israel for the facility and gave the assurance that the Centre would be maintained properly.
Neuro Surgical services were planned as part of a five-year expansion programme to make KATH a full-fledged teaching hospital, he said. He appealed for the release of a portion of Military land behind KATH for expansion to ease congestion at the hospital.
Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, promised to take upwith the Minister of Defence.
He called for peace, unity and support to enable the government to “deliver,” saying, “By 2004, KATH would have seen a lot more change.
