Transport owner arrested with brand-new rail lines

Tema, Jan 05, GNA — The Tema and Ashaiman Police has arrested a 35-year-old transport owner for possessing two new rail lines suspected to be part of the consignment the government imported.

Johannes Quarshie claimed he bought the lines from two men at a cost of 3.6 million cedis.

A statement signed by Tema Regional Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketiah-Yeboah said on December 26, 2004, police had information that thieves had stolen some of the railway lines the government had imported for the Railway Reconstruction Project and hidden them at Ashaiman.

The Police mounted an operation and retrieved two new metals cut in the shape of railway lines at Ashaiman and Tema and Quarshie claimed he bought them from two men.
