Transport Minister designate speaks on improving trade at the ports

The Minister Designate for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has promised to minimize revenue leakages at the Ports with the collaboration with the Ministry of Finance.

“One thing by God’s Grace if I confirmed, I intend to do is trying to segregate container handling from other activities at the port. Secondly I would advise the GPHA to look strictly into their technological involvement in terms of technology concerning arrival in cargo situations and ensure that by doing that, we will be able to have total automation which will reduce time and cost of doing business and by so doing efficiency may be achieved”

Speaking during his vetting, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said he intends to introduce electronic payment system for the pay of duties so as to reduce the human interface.

“To look out for technology, so long as there is a lot of human interface and operations at the port, these situations may occur so we need to look at technology by trying to reduce human involvement and also I will try to seek for electronic payment system which will also be applied and by this situation if not completely eliminating, we can reduce the level of revenue leakage at the port”
