Transitional Team Spends 1.3 billion On Refreshment

Total Expenditure to the entire transitional process by which the government of President Mills assumed office amounted to GH¢361.9 thousand ghana cedis (3.6billion old cedis). The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Kwabena Duffuor made this known in Parliament today, when he answered some questions in the House.

According to the Minister, GH¢208.8 thousand was spend on honoraria for Members of the transitional team who worked for almost two months. GH¢135.3 thousand was spent on refreshments, GH¢15 thousand on hired office equipment and GH¢2.7 thousand on stationery.

The Minister’s answer generated so many supplementary questions from both the minority and majority sides of the House that, time did not allow the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Joyce Bamford Addo to allow all the supplementary questions to be answered by the Minister. There were shouts of Tea!! Tea!! from the minority side of the house apparently in reference to the amount spent on refreshments during the transition.
