Training programme for policy makers underway

Accra, Sept. 23, GNA – The Oxford Brookes University from the United Kingdom is conducting a five-day strategic environmental assessment training programme for policy makers involved in shaping and implementing Ghana’s Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS).

The programme, which started September 22 to 26, aims to access the environmental risks and opportunities presented by the policies of the GPRS, and to identify appropriate management and mitigation measures to ensure sound environmental management for poverty reduction and economic growth.

A release from the British High Commission on Tuesday said the training forms part of the second phase of a strategic environmental assessment of the GRPS that involves a review of the strategy and priorities set out in the Medium Term Development Plan as they relate to District Development Plans.

The British High Commission funded the programme, jointly organized by the Ministry of Environment and Science, the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Development Planning Commission.
