Traffic management planned for Ashiaman

Accra, Nov. 8, GNA -Traffic management measures are to established over the next five years to improve the flow of traffic in the Ashiaman township in the Greater Accra Region based on a recently completed traffic management study.

Over the same period, a total of 17.0 kilometers of gravel roads in the area to be upgraded to bitumen surface, Mr. Magnus Opare-Asamoah, Deputy Minister of Transportation, told Parliament on Thursday in response to a question on when roads in Ashiaman would be tarred. Ashiaman is also to benefit from the Urban Transport Project recently launched by President J.A Kufuor in Accra. “The township’s component includes the implementation of the traffic management recommendations of the study.

“It is the desire of the Ministry to systematically upgrade the roads in the township to befit its status,” the Deputy Minister said. He said a number of contracts for the construction of drains are to be undertaken totaling about 3.0km in several areas of Ashiaman, including the ‘Middle East’ and ‘Lebanon’. In response to another question on when some roads in Hohoe in the Volta Region would be tarred, Mr Opare-Asamoah said the Hohoe-Fodome feeder roads was awarded for tarring in September this year at a contract sum of 11.9 billion cedis.

“The contract has been awarded for work to start by the end of the year. The project will take 18 months to be completed.”
