Traditional ruler commends some news translators

Gomoa-Darhom (C/R), Oct. 15, GNA – The Ex-Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Okutupong Apata Kofi IV, as commended some “Akan” translators of some FM stations in the country for their excellent work and encouraged them to study hard to inject innovations into their work.

He however, advised them to be more circumspect in the discharge of their official duties in order to maintain the credible image they have carved for themselves and their respective FM radio stations. Okutupong Apata Kofi made special mention of Nana Kofi Koomson of Goodnews FM at Takoradi, Adwoa Yeboa-Agyei and her colleagues at Peace FM in Accra as well as Afua Sarfoa-Kentenpoh and other announcers at Adom FM at Tema.

Other Akan news announcers, who caught the eye of the former paramount chief, were Kofi Arhin of GBC 1 and Kakraba Quarshie and others of Winneba Radio Peace for their good performance. Okutupong Apata Kofi was addressing members of Gomoa-Darhom Twidan family at a special annual appraisal meeting at which parents in the family were charged to offer their children better home training to ensure that they grew up to become useful citizens for their respective families and the nation in future.

The chief therefore, urged the people in the Gomoa District, particularly the illiterates among them, to take advantage of the vivid translation of events happening in the country and beyond by the Akan language translators at the FM and other radio stations to keep them fully abreast with things occurring around them.

This way, he said, they would be able to make meaningful contribution towards the development of the district, stressing that, majority of the news items borders on social, cultural, agricultural and other pressing national issues, which the rural people needed to hear.

The meeting paid special homage to Nana Kofi Koomson, who is a member of the Twidan family for the honour done the family through his good work to his employers and the nation and strongly advised him not to be complacent but work harder to promote the activities of his station.
