Akim Swedru (C/R), June 24, – A three-member judicial committee of the Akim Busome Traditional Council sitting at Akim Swedru has upheld destoolment charges preferred against Barima Aninagyei-Bonso the second, chief of Akim Aperade by some sub-chiefs in the area. The committee has, therefore, granted reliefs sought by the sub-chiefs for the necessary customary rites to be performed for the destoolment of the chief. It awarded 500,000 cedis cost against the chief. The sub-chiefs are Nana Akomanimaa, Gyasehene, Nana Owusu, Mankrado and Mr C.K. Mensah, Oyoko Abusuapanin, all of Akim Aperade. The sub-chiefs accused the chief, among other charges, of slapping and beating Sergeant Dogbe of the Akim Aperade Police station on August 15, 1994 contrary to custom which forbids chiefs from fighting in public. That action by the chief resulted in the temporary closure of the police station. The sub-chiefs contended that as a result of the assault on the policeman, Barima Aninagye-Bonso was arraigned at a community tribunal at Akim Oda presided over by Mr Erasmus Gyinae on February 1996 and fined 250,000 cedis.
