Traditional caterers upgrade skills

Mr. Newman Kpogo, an appointed member of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), on Thursday called on traditional caterers to endeavour to win markets in the oil and gas and tourism sectors.

He said traditional caterers in the Western Region could take advantage of the growing opportunities in the two sectors to sell their products to a wider public. Mr. Kpogo was speaking at the closing session of a 10-day skills development training programme for 183 members of the Ghana Traditional Caterers Association in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis at Kojokrom near Takoradi.

The participants were drawn from Effiakuma, Takoradi, Sekondi, Kojokrom and Kwesimintsim. The training programme was supported by Skills Development Fund/Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) and facilitated by the EliTrust Finecone, a consultancy firm.

Mr. Kpogo who presided over the programme asked participants to put what they have learnt into practice to improve the quality of their products and services and to encourage their colleagues to participate in future training programmes. Madam Patience Dzakpsu Botchway Mensah, Regional President of the association, thanked the government for supporting the training programme.

She urged the government to continue supporting the association to upgrade the skills of members of the association to prepare healthy food for their large customers. Madam Mensah said the participants were educated on record keeping, how to persevere food stuff, keep clean environment, to dispense food and on their tax obligation. Certificates were later presented to the participants.
