Trading at Takoradi Harbour is prohibited- Port authorities

Takoradi April 2, GNA – The Management of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) says the main gate of the Takoradi Port is not to be used for the sale of fish and other commercial activities. Therefore, the authority, has directed that anyone found doing business in the vicinity should be arrested.

Mrs Agnes Dennis-Moses, Public Relations Manager of the GPHA, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi on Friday.

She said: 93It is an offence to sell at the main gate and management would not encourage it.”

Mrs Dennis-Moses said a total of 22 Reefer Vessels carrying frozen fish have berthed at the Port this year.

She said this was because the European Union was not allowing European registered vessels to berth at Abidjan Port due to the political stalemate in Ivory Coast.

Mrs Dennis-Moses said the vessels had not created congestion at the Port because their agent, Supermaritime, arranged for transport to convey the fish and other cargo to neighbouring landlocked countries soon after their arrival at the facility.

She said the increase in vessels at the Port would boost revenue but could not tell offhand the percentage increase.
