Drivers in Koforidua are complaining about the taking over of the roads in Koforidua market square by traders and that the situation is making it difficult for them to go about their normal businesses.
According to the drivers, some of the women are even frying plantain almost in the middle of the road on blazing coal pots.
Reacting to the situation, the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Asamoah, confirmed that the Assembly had received complaints from the drivers and pedestrians about the situation.
He said the assembly met the market women on the issue five times between July and December last year.
Mr Asamoah said after the meetings and an education programme for the women, the Assembly undertook some operations including clearing of some containers blocking the road. Mr
Asamoah said currently, the Assembly had begun a public education to educate the traders about the dangers involved in selling on the roads and the pedestrian walk ways.
He said in two weeks time, the Assembly would begin an exercise to ensure that all the traders move back from the road to their market stalls and appealed for public support.
