Traders at the burnt Madina market have appealed to the La-Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly to suspend rebuilding the market until after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Fire gutted the Madina Central Market on October 22 and burnt 229 sheds, goods and cash.
The La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Engineer, Mr. Shine Seshie, told the GNA that the Assembly wanted to start rebuilding the market but victims of the disaster objected and said the time was not opportune for them.
The acting Vice-Secretary of the Second-hand Clothing Sellers Association, Madam Jennifer Nketia, said they were appealing to the Municipal Assembly to suspend the reconstruction of the burnt sheds because they want to sell the remaining wares to raise money to pay loans they had taken from financial institutions.
Mr. Seshie said the burnt sheds had been estimated at ¢230,000 and added that all new kiosks built in the market would be removed to give way for the construction.
