Traders at Adabraka market say they want security

Accra, July 20, GNA – Traders in the Adabraka Market have appealed to the government to provide them with security to prevent rampant theft in the market and to secure their safety.

Madam Hajia Hasiah Awudu, Acting QueenMmother of the Market, said some traders had lost their capitals because of criminal activities especially in the night, adding that lack of electricity in the market was making life difficult.

She was speaking during a visit of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashitey, to the market to ascertain challenges confronting the traders on Tuesday.

Madam Awudu said the rubbish heap in the market was a threat to the life of patrons of the market and appealed to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to clear the refuse.

She said the traders had been paying tax but they had to clean the market themselves before displaying their goods.

Madam called for the construction of new toilets as well as a parking lot to make drivers feel comfortable to offload their goods since they were always compelled by the taskforce to use the market with the traders.

Nii Armah Ashitey assured the traders that all their grievances would be addressed before the end of the year.
