Trader steals at hospital

A 34-year-old man has appeared before the Amasaman District Magistrate Court A for stealing a lady’s purse.

Mohammed Ali, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of GHC2,500.

Ali is a trader while the complainant, Jennifer Asante, is a nurse at the Urgent Care Hospital at Achimota in Accra.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt F.A. Ansah , on October 1, 2014, Asante reported to work at about 7:40 a.m. and left her bag at the general ward to attend morning devotion.

On her way out of the ward, she met Ali who greeted her. A few minutes later, Ali was spotted by another nurse, who is a witness in this case, picking a purse from Asante’s bag.

Sgt Ansah said immediately Ali saw the witness, he threw the purse on the floor and bolted but he was pursued and arrested.

A complaint was lodged with the police and after investigations, Ali was charged before the court.

According to Sgt Ansah, the purse contained an amount of GHC40.00, a mobile phone and a make-up kit.

The prosecutor said Ali is still in police custody because he could not meet the bail terms.

The case has been adjourned to November 24, 2014.
