Trader remanded for duping a friend of his 2,000 euros

Juaso (Ash), April 30, GNA – The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Justice S.K. Sarpong Appiah has remanded a 27-year old trader into prison custody for duping a friend of 2,000 Euros.

Isaac Ofori pleaded guilty with explanation and would re- appear on May 12. Police Detective Inspector Adu Ofori told the court that the complainant, Mr Prosper Addae Afoakwa, is based in Italy while the accused is in charge of a mobile phone business (space-to-space) established by the complainant. In December 2008, the accused convinced him a send to him 1,000 Euros under the pretext of buying a plot of land for Afoakwa.

He again succeeded in getting the complainant to transfer additional 1,000 euros to him in March 2009, to buy a stone grinding machine, which he said could bring in more returns because of growing small scale mining in the Konongo area.

The prosecution said when the Afoakwa returned to the country in February and requested to inspect his property the accused could not account for them. A formal report was consequently made to the police and he was arrested.
