Accra, March 15, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded in prison custody Abdul Rauf Imoro, 40, a Trader, for duping a businessman 50 million cedis under the pretext of supplying him with 3,000 bags of rice and 1,000 bags of sugar.
Imoro pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretences. He would reappear on April 6.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joseph Ohemeng told the Court presided over by Mr S.G. Okraku that the complainant, Mr Ben Egyafene and the accused lived in Accra.
He said sometime in April 2004, Imoro contacted Mr Egyafene through one Charles, the accused person’s friend, and said could supply with a consignment rice and sugar.
The Prosecutor said Mr Egyafene also showed interest and informed his friend, who raised 25 million cedis for 1,000 bags of sugar, and gave it to Imoro on April 8, 2004 but he failed to supply the items.
Chief Inspector Ohemeng said Imoro went back to Mr Egyafene to collect additional 25 million cedis under the pretext of supplying him with 3,000 bags of rice, but he failed to do so He said after receiving a total amount of 50 million cedis form the complainant, the accused went into hiding.
He said on July 6, 2004, Mr Egyafene made a report to the Police and Imoro was arrested on Monday, March 14 2004.
