An Accra Circuit Court on Monday handed a five-year jail sentence to one Mohammed Subura, a trader for possessing 117 wrappers of narcotic drug without lawful authority.
Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charge but was found guilty by the court Presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh after trial.
He is to serve five years in prison in hard labour.
Earlier the prosecution, Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, told the court that on December 23, 2015, around 05:30 hours the Tesano Divisional Command embarked on a swoop within the Tesano area and in the process arrested Mohammed in a wooden structure along the Alajo big gutter.
He said a search conducted in his kiosk revealed 17 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in a black polythene bag hidden under his mattress.
He said Mohammed in his caution statement denied ownership of the substance and the kiosk.
Police Chief Inspector Adu said Mohammed however informed the police that, the kiosk belongs to his friend called Fusseini but could not assist the police to arrest him to assist in investigations.
