Trader jailed for indecent assault

Sadat Bashiru, a 23-year-old trader, who allegedly had anal sex with a 15-year-old boy on a school compound at Nima, on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Bashiru pleaded not guilty to defilement, but pleaded guilty to indecent assault.

The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava convicted Bashiru on his plea and sentenced him to nine months imprisonment

However, it adjourned the matter to July 17 to determine the charge of defilement leveled against Bashiru.

Police Chief Inspector I.A.A. Ahor, said the complainant was an estate developer, who resides at Nima, Accra, and the victim, a class four primary school boy, who resides in the same vicinity.

On June 16, this year, the boy went to watch a football match at Kanda 441 and Basahiru asked the victim to buy food for him.

The prosecution said when the victim returned with the food, Bashiru asked him to put it in one of the classrooms and wait for him (Bashiru).

Chief Insp. Ahor said Bashiru lured the victim into another classroom and had anal sex him.

The prosecution said the victim went home the next day, reported the ordeal to his mother.

The victim’s mother informed the complainant and a complaint was lodged with the Police at Nima, and the victim was issued with medical form for examination.

Prosecution said Bashiru was arrested and handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit in Accra.**
