Trader in custody for attempting to use stolen card

Tema, Oct. 16, GNA – Baba Koman, a trader in Accra, who attempted to withdraw money from the Tema branch of the Barclays Bank with a stolen business card, was on Friday remanded in prison custody by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’.

Koman pleaded not guilty to charges of forging of documents, possessing stolen property and attempted stealing. The accused person went to the bank on October 13, this year with an HSBC Business card and a Ghanaian passport, which bore the name of Steve Dobbling, to withdraw 2,000 pounds sterling.

Koman before then had acquired a Ghanaian passport in the person of Dobbling and a Police Extract of Occurrence, alleging that his Ghanaian passport and other documents were lost, before he could have access to the accounts of the said Dobbling.

According to the prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor, the Manager of the Bank, who is the complainant in the case, became suspicious when Koman presented the documents, so he alerted the Police who arrested him for interrogation.

The Police during further interrogation realised that, the business card Koman had in his possession was suspected to have been stolen from London and sent to Ghana.

During a search in his room, however, two Ghanaian passports and a University of Ghana Identity card were retrieved, but the accused person refused to name his accomplices, the prosecutor added. 16 Oct. 04
