Trader fined 2.5 million for stealing wheel caps

Tema, Sept. 24, GNA – The Tema Circuit Court “A” has fined a trader 2.5 million cedis for stealing four wheel caps of a Mercedes Benz car. Nana Prempeh pleaded guilty, and will go to jail for three years in default.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that, in the early hours of September 13, 2004, a banker residing in Community Six, detected the theft of his vehicle’s wheel caps.

Inspector Otchere said Mr Joe Ellis, the owner and his family and friends combed the whole area, where the car was parked, but they could not trace the caps.

The prosecution said on reaching a spot near Parents Association School in Community Six, however, Ellis spotted the accused person walking by the roadside with the wheel caps under his armpit. Inspector Otchere said Mr Ellis stopped and confronted the accused person who became speechless.

The prosecution said Prempeh pleaded with Ellis, but he was sent to the Community Two Police Station, where in his caution statement, he admitted having committed the offence.
