Trader defiles eight-year-old pupil

Akyem Swedru May 31, GNA- A circuit court at Akyem Swedru, on Thursday sentenced Kwadwo Kwabi, a 21-year-old trader to 19 years imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old pupil at Akyem Wenchi in the Kwaebibrem District.

Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that both the victim and the convict lived in the same vicinity at Akyem Wenchi. He said on May 15, at about 1500 hours when it started raining heavily, the victim placed a barrel behind Kwabi’s house to harvest water.

Police Chief Inspector Apenkwah said Kwabi arrived home through the rain and on seeing the girl harvesting water dragged her into his room and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. He said after satisfying himself, Kwabi asked the victim to go home and warned her not to reveal the ordeal to anyone. The prosecutor said as soon as the girl went to the house, she told a neighbour about the ordeal and the neighbour informed her mother about it.

The victim was issued with a police medical report form to attend hospital for treatment. Kwabi was later arrested and in his caution statement to the police he admitted the offence. 31 May 07
