Kumasi, July 29, GNA – A circuit court in Kumasi on Tuesday jailed a trader and a carpenter four years each, for breaking into a chapel and stealing a public address system. The convicts, Kofi Mensah and Joe Afan, stole the address system, valued at three million cedis from Believers Gospel Church at Adoato in the Kumasi metropolis. They all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal, causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Evelyn Addo told the court presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmorosa that at about 0340 hours on July 10, this year, the two persons broke into the Church and stole the public address system. She said, however that, luck eluded them as the police patrol team on the Bohyen road intercept the taxi in which they were travelling and found the system.
Chief Inspector Addo said the suspects were arrested but an accomplice, managed to escape, when the taxi was stopped. The prosecution said the two accused persons and the taxi driver were sent to the Buffalo Unit, where the two confessed to stealing the items. Chief Inspector Addo said Mensah and Afan told the police that the driver was innocent, since they (suspects) only hired him to convey the public address system.
