Trader before tribunal for raping seamstress

Accra, Sept. 15, GNA – An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Wednesday remanded in custody a 50-year-old trader, Samuel Mensah, for allegedly forcibly having sex with a 23-year-old seamstress. Mensah pleaded not guilty to rape.

He will reappear on September 27. Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah told the tribunal chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson-Yebuah that Mensah lives in the same house with the victim and her husband in Accra.

The prosecutor said while the victim was in her bedroom after taking her bath, Mensah saw her naked and sneaked into the room. Inspector Tawiah said Mensah pushed the victim onto her bed and forcibly had sex with her without her consent.

The prosecutor said Mensah then gave her 10,000 cedis and asked her not to tell anyone. She refused to take the money and informed her husband when he returned from work.
