Trader and daughter jailed for two months each

Kumasi, Dec. 23, GNA – A 43-year-old trader and her teenage daughter have been sentenced by a Kumasi Circuit Court to two months each for failin= g to honour their tax obligations and assaulting three Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officials. Fautina Adusei, the trader and her elder daughter, Victoria Atta Serwaa= h Adusei, a 17-year-old student, pleaded guilty. The second daughter, Yvette Boakye Kumi, a 16-year-old student, was however, referred to the Juvenile Court.

Police Chief Collins K. Fosu told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that Mr Eric Gandah, Mr Padmore Zeina and Mr Ebenezer Fosu are IRS officials of the Asokwa District Office and Faustina operates a mini consumable shop and a students’ hostel at Bomso, all in Kumasi. He said Faustina was invited and served with letters to remind her to honour her tax obligations but failed to pay the tax for three years. On August 23, the officials went to collect revenue and sales tax from traders including Faustina at Bomso. Chief Inspector Fosu said when they got to the shop, the daughters lied to them that their mother had gone out and when the officials were about to lock up the place they resisted. Yvette pushed Mr Gandah who fell down and broke his right arm. Faustina emerged from her hideout and assisted her daughters to assault the officers= .. Faustina held Mr Gandah’s manhood and asked him to have sex with her and pay her afterwards to enable her pay the tax. A report was made to the police and they were arrested.
