Toyota takes up hospital wing

Mr. Hisao Ikegai, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Ghana Company says the company is prepared to assist the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre (RPSC) of Korle-Bu hospital to acquire the necessary tools to attain international standards.

He said Korle-Bu is special to the Japanese, because of contributions made by Dr. Hideyo Noguchi, one of the famous medical doctors of Japan in the fight against yellow fever in Ghana, and it is their duty to increase Japan’s assistance to Ghana.

Mr. Ikegai said this at the dedication of the Toyota wing of the RPSC last week.

He said with the dedication of the wing, “Toyota Ghana will be positioned to add more meaning to the fruitful relationship between the centre and the company, for a lasting quality national health delivery system.” It would also afford them the opportunity to sit with the hospital administrators to discuss the future of the centre especially in replacement of obsolete tools and faulty machines.

The company donated a seed a mount of ?75 million from the Toyota Condor Fund, a fund established to support communities they operate in, as demanded by Toyota’s Global Policy.

Mr. Fabian R. Mork, Medical Director of the Unit said even though the centre is very useful and important in the health delivery process, it has had many problems includeing inadequate supply of equipment, personnel and finance to make the centre fully functional.

He said the wing was dedicated to Toyota for “its immense contribution, towards alleviation of some of the centre’s shortcomings”.
