Town in Ashanti cut off after main bridge collapses

People of Afrancho Bronkong, a town in the Ashanti Region are stranded following the collapse of the main bridge, which links the town to other communities.

The unfortunate incident is really affecting residents as foodstuffs are left rotten on the farms because there are no vehicles to transport them; children are unable to go to school while market women have no means of conducting business.

Virtually, all social and business activities have been brought to a halt following the collapse of the bridge two weeks ago.

Residents and school children are forced to cross the river which the bridge straddles over by canoes to get to the detached towns.

Mr. Yaw Sarkordie Addo, former Unit Committee chairman of the area, said the bridge was constructed about three years ago but the growing size of the community is putting so much pressure on the facility, which was shoddily done by the contractor.

The residents are also blaming the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area for turning a deaf ear to their plights.

The DCE for the area, Mr. Oppong Kyekyeku told Atinkaonline that he was aware of the situation and that he would dispatch personnel from the district office to rectify the problem.
