Tourism officials miss their way to hippo sanctuary

Wa, Sept. 27, GNA – Officials from the Tourism industry, who are visiting some of the country’s tourist facilities on Tuesday missed an opportunity to visit the Wechiau Hippopotamus Sanctuary in the Upper West Region because they lost their way to the place. The officials included staff of the Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relations, the Ghana Tourists Board, Ghana Tourism Development Company and the Wildlife Division.

Mr Emmanuel Amoah Agogo, a tour guide who was leading them, accepted responsibility for the mix-up and apologized. The Ministry organised the tour as part of activities to celebrate World Tourism Day, which falls on September 27 every year. This year’s commemoration is on the theme: 93Tourism enriches,=94 and will be climaxed with a durbar of the chiefs and people at Gwollu in Upper West on Wednesday.

Gwollu hosts a number of tourist attractions, including a bonesetters’ centre, a unique wall and a Viagra centre. The tour, which started on September 24, had taken the participants to the Manhyia Palace and the Komfo Anokye Sword Site in Kumasi, as well as Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region and Wa.
