Too many self-acclaimed Paramount Chiefs in Volta Region – Togbe Afede

Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and the President of the National House of Chiefs has expressed worry over the increasing number of “self-acclaimed” paramount chiefs in the Volta Region.

He noted that many traditional councils were not developing because some people had made themselves paramount chiefs without the endorsement of the Regional House of Chiefs.

Togbe Afede who expressed the frustration at the end of year General Meeting of the Volta Region House of Chiefs thus asked the House to put measures in place to check the practice to maintain peace in the region.

“If we have to maintain our reveres, we have to bring development to our people so as to avoid our people leaving the shores of their land to other countries in search of greener pasture,” he said, noting that the brutality being meted out on Africans in Libya for instance was because leaders were not creating opportunities for their people.

Togbe Afede therefore appealed to chiefs to seek the welfare of their people and urged government to work closely with ECOWAS to resolve the Libyan issue.
